SERVE at Home - Make Cards for Service Members

Activity Description

SERVE at Home is a way for your family to spread kindness and help our community on your own, anytime, anywhere! We want to keep Houston volunteering all week long!

Let’s get crafty and make handmade cards cheerful cards & letters for members of our military. These cards will go to A Million Thanks who distributes cards & letters to service members across the world.

You will need to provide the supplies for this activity. You can complete this activity on your own anytime during the month.

Activity Directions

Supplies needed:

• Construction paper or blank cards
• Markers or crayons
• Stickers, stamps, or other art supplies you may have at home
• Please do not put your cards in separate envelopes.
• Do not used store bought cards. Only hand written cards/letters will be accepted.
• A mailing envelope and postage

We will be using A Million Thanks's letter writing guidelines to make cards. Make fun and colorful designs on the front of your cards. You can include drawings, stickers, stamps and more. Please avoid glitter as it can rub off.

On the inside of your cards, include a drawing and a supportive message such as:

Thank you for your service!

I appreciate you!

You are awesome!

Or any other fun, positive, and/or uplifting message! You can also write a joke or riddle. Please sign the cards with your first name, age and where you are from.

Please try to make 3-5 cards and mail them together in one envelope directly to:

Activity Requirements

• This activity is great for all ages. 
• Our program is designed to be a family experience. We want parents and caregivers to work alongside their child(ren) for all our Family Volunteering activities.

A Million Thanks was started by a 15 year old with the goal of sending one million letters and cards of appreciation to U.S. military members. To date, more than seven million letters and cards have been distributed to U.S. troops stationed around the world.
