This is a Closed Group Activity for the Kinkaid African American Family Service Project! If you are not a member of this group, please see our calendar to sign up for other service opportunities!
This activity is virtual and requires you to provide your own supplies - bag to collect books, paper, scissors, markers, crayons or stickers. Families who sign up for this event will receive a separate email with detailed instructions and further information about our nonprofit partner and how we can help!
Welcome to Generation SERVE! We are excited to volunteer with you. To sign up for this event, please click on the RSVP tabs on this page. If you have not yet registered your family with us, you can do so HERE!
For the Kinkaid African American Family Service Project, we will help Books Between Kids create home libraries for Houston children at risk by collecting books with a porch pickup book drive and making bookmarks to give with the books we collect!
It is more important than ever to help Books Between Kids get books into the hands of Houston kids! Books Between Kids needs new and like-new books for Pre-K through 5th grade reading levels. Books needed are story books, chapter books, leveled readers, children’s nonfiction, dual language books and toddler/board books. Please see here for more information on books needed.
You can clean out your own book shelves to find gently used books to donate. You can collect even more books for kids by asking neighbors if they want to help! You can leave bags on your neighbors’ porch to pick up books in a safe, contactless way. Here are resources to organize a book drive for Books Between Kids. We have also created a Flyer HERE you can use to collect books in a porch pick up book drive.
You can also make bookmarks to be donated with the books we collect. Feel free to get creative and use any art supplies you have at home! Here is a link for fun ideas!
Please try to sort your donations if possible into the following categories: story books, chapter books, leveled readers, nonfiction books, toddler books, dual language books.
We kindly request that you please drop off book donations at the Harrison House at Kinkaid by 3:30 PM on Friday, February 19th. You can also drop off donations at our Generation SERVE Bins located at Houston Congregation for Reform Judaism, 801 Bering Drive, 77056 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00AM-1:00PM or Sundays from 9:00AM-11:00AM.
Detailed instructions and resources will be sent to you upon registration. Enjoy volunteering!
