This activity is for ages 13 and up with a parent or guardian. Mature teens may participate as a drop off event with certain additional requirements.
This is a modified, in person volunteering opportunity. Detailed instructions and educational resources will be sent to you upon registration. You will meet with our nonprofit partner directly for the service opportunity onsite. A COVID waiver from both Generation SERVE and our nonprofit partner will be required. Join Generation SERVE to volunteer at the Book Warehouse for Friends of the Houston Public Libraries!
We can support our local library by volunteering with the Friends of the Houston Public Library at their Book Warehouse! No prior training/experience is needed; guidance will be provided at the Book Warehouse. All volunteers ages 13 and up are welcome.
For Friends of HPL volunteers 17 or younger: Please print the volunteer liability release form and have you and your parent or guardian sign it and bring it in with you on your first shift with the Friends of HPL. You can locate the form here.
MASKS will be required to volunteer along with a mandatory tempetaure scan. Gloves and hand santizer will be available for volunteers. Please wear close-toed shoes and clothes you are comfortable in.
- Scanning donated and discarded books using Neatoscan scanner
- Sorting and moving books into appropriate area (listing, research, recycle, etc.)
- General warehouse projects such as, breaking down boxes, moving books to other areas, and sorting books for community book sales
