This address is the starting address for the route.

This activity is best for ages 8 and up. 1-2 families can work together to walk or drive the route to drop off bags to collect books for Literacy in the Bag.

This is a modified, in person volunteering opportunity. Detailed instructions and educational resources will be sent to you upon registration. You will meet with our nonprofit partner directly for the service opportunity onsite. A COVID waiver from both Generation SERVE and our nonprofit partner will be required. Please be sure to review our Generation SERVE waiver HERE and return your signed copy to leah@generationserve.org.

Join the Literacy in the Bag Team to collect books for their annual book drive and community outreach to promote literacy in Houston children and adults. The Generation SERVE Literacy in a Bag Team will meet in the Heights where we will be given our routes to drop off bags to neighbors in the Heights to be filled with books for the holiday book drive. This will be a walking route with a car following to help collect the donated books!

Each year, Literacy in the Bag redistributes donated children’s books to Houston and surrounding-area Title I Elementary and Middle Schools. These books help stock school libraries, classrooms and create at-home libraries for students. All adult books are donated to Friends of the Houston Public Library.

Literacy in the Bag is a nonprofit organization supported by Texas Tamale Company, iWrite Literacy Organization and the Houston Public Library.
