Activity Description

Work with your family to host a food drive for Dripping Springs Helping Hands. Join a brief virtual meeting on Zoom to learn more about their current pantry needs and to brainstorm ideas with other families on hosting a food drive. You will also learn about food insecurity and talk more about the importance of helping others experiencing food insecurity. Note: You will not be on the Zoom meeting the entire duration of the activity!

After the virtual meeting, your family will work together to collect food so Dripping Springs Helping Hands can stock their shelves.

Ideas for coordinating a food drive to get you started:

  • Set up a date range for your food drive
  • Make a flyer advertising your food drive and sharing more about Dripping Springs Helping Hands. You can use this list as a starting point for what groceries you need to collect.
  • Promote your food drive. Hang up your flyer in your neighborhood. Share it with your neighbors or friends. Talk to your friends and neighbors about why collecting items for those served by Dripping Springs Helping Hands is important.
  • Collect monetary donations and see how far you can make your donations stretch by purchasing as much from the list as you can with the money you collect.
  • Make a plan for collecting food, for example, place a bin on your front porch or set up a time for friends and neighbors to stop by to bring you donations.

Some of the items on the Dripping Springs Helping Hands wishlist include:

  • Ramen Noodles
  • Bagged or Boxed Pasta
  • Black Beans
  • Pinto Beans
  • Refried Beans
  • Canned Tuna
  • Canned Peaches
  • Canned Pears
  • Canned Cranberries
  • Canned Chili with and without Beans
