Activity Description

Violet Crown Garden Club is co-hosting the Roots & Wings Festival, and they have invited Generation SERVE families to come help plant polinators in the Children's Garden at Zilker Botanical Garden. The festival is a community-wide celebration honoring Arbor Day and Monarch Appreciation Day in Austin. You will help plant native and pollinator friendly plants to enhance the Children's Garden at Zilker Botanical Garden. Tools, plants, and help from expert gardeners will be provided.

After our work is done, there are plenty of other fun activities going on at Zilker Garden as well as self-guided garden tours.

More About Our Partners

Zilker Botanical Garden's mission is to guide, enhance and grow a world-class botanical garden in the heart of Austin whose beauty and diversity will serve to inspire and educate all those who enter its gates and walk its verdant paths.

Violet Crown Garden Club - In the early spring of 1924, Mrs. Clara Driscoll Sevier called a meeting at her home, Laguna Gloria, for those interested in community beautification. The club became federated with National Garden Clubs, Inc, on November 10, 1928 during the first convention of Texas Garden Clubs. The poet O. Henry called Austin “The City of the Violet Crown”. So the name Violet Crown Garden Club was adopted. The club met for 26 years in the Crystal Ballroom at the Driskill Hotel, then at various other locations. They helped to build the garden center at Zilker Botanical Garden and have been meeting there since their 40th anniversary in 1964.
