SERVE at Home - Make Welcome Kits for Summer Fellows in The Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative

Activity Description

SERVE at Home is a way for your family to spread kindness and help our community on your own, anytime, anywhere! We want to keep Austin volunteering all week long!

Generation SERVE is a host for The Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI), which is the U.S. Department of State’s flagship program for emerging entrepreneurs and business leaders from Latin America, the Caribbean, and Canada. This year, our fellow is Francisco from the Dominican Republic. He is a UX designer and self-taught entrepreneur who has created his own tax and volunteer online platforms for people in the Dominican Republic. He is excited to work with Generation SERVE to learn about nonprofit management and engage people in volunteerism because it is not a cultural norm in the Dominican Republic. Generation SERVE and our fellow, Francisco, are working closely together to plan activities that introduce families to Francisco and Francisco to our community through volunteering. For this activity, your family will create welcome kits for Francisco and the other YLAI fellows who will be spending 5 weeks in Austin. YLAI fellows are provided housing, but they are responsible for their own household items like dish soap, laundry detergent, and toilet paper. All these items are expensive, and the cost is impactful on their small stipend. 

You will need to provide the supplies for this activity. You can complete this activity on your own anytime before May 10, 2023.

Activity Directions

Please include the following items in your Welcome to Austin kit. Keep in mind that the fellows only need about 5 weeks worth of supplies, so no need to get Costco-sized supplies.

• Laundry Detergent
• Dishwasher tabs
• Dish soap
• Sponges
• Paper Towels
• Counter cleaner
• Toilet Paper
• A reusable bag
• Add a personal touch to the kit by including a card or sign to welcome the fellows to Austin, and make a list of your favorite Austin spots to visit or dine.

We recommend making 1 welcome kit per family.

Delivery Instructions:

Please deliver your Welcome to Austin kits to the Generation SERVE office before May 10, 2023.
