Activity Description

Join our friends from Harris County Parks Precinct 3 as we assist them in helping to beautify and maintain Dennis Johnston Park. Tasks may include:

  • Helping with mulching, weeding, watering, and setting stone pavers and flowerbed borders. The garden is an official monarch butterfly way station, so any restoration or maintenance of habitat for an endangered species is especially important.
  • Helping with citizen science through trash (refuse) cleanup under Highway 99. Volunteers will help categorize and log distinct types of refuse. This info is then entered into the txlitter.org database.

Activity Requirements

  • This activity is limited to ages twelve and above.
  • Please bring gardening/work gloves, wear closed-toe shoes, and dress appropriately for the weather.
  • Please bring a water bottle and snack to consume.
  • To confirm your reservation, please submit the online release form here.
  • Masks are optional at Generation SERVE outdoor activities. Generation SERVE adheres to the following COVID-19 policies to help keep your family and ours safe. We will continue to respect our partners' mask requirements as well as your family's decision around wearing masks.

More About Our Partner

Precinct 3 is home to 69 beautiful parks, including three signature parks – Jesse H. Jones Park, Mercer Botanic Gardens, and Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve. These green spaces are conveniently located across the precinct from east to west and offer a variety of amenities that include game fields, dog parks, hiking trails, fishing, exercise equipment, botanic gardens, canoe access, playgrounds and more. Go for a jog, bring the family for a day outdoors, bring your furry friends, or participate in one of our many park events. The options are unlimited when it comes to exploring Precinct 3 parks. Park Programs is a mobile unit dedicated to connecting people to nature by providing outdoor recreation and environmental educational opportunities throughout Harris County Precinct 3. Programs like fishing, nature walking, woodworking, and much more.
