SERVE at Home - Make Art Kits for Art from the Streets

Activity Description

SERVE at Home is a way for your family to spread kindness and help our community on your own, anytime, anywhere! We want to keep Austin volunteering all week long! Please RSVP on our calendar so we can let our non-profit partner know how many items to expect.

For this activity, you will work with your family at home to assemble art kits for Art from the Streets to hand out to their clients who are experiencing homelessness. Homelessness is a complicated issue that requires multiple efforts. AFTS seeks to address the effects of homelessness through daily practice in a learning environment, with support from positive role models, to help foster new, positive, and creative habits.

You will need to provide the supplies for this activity. You can complete this activity on your own anytime during the month.

Activity Directions

Please include the at least the following items in your art kits:



• Waterproof bag (required)
• 1 Sharpie pen (color or black)
• 1 pad of paper (must fit in the waterproof bag)
• 1 set of water color paints
• 2 professional paint brushes (no child's paint kit brushes)
• Watercolor pencils (2-3)
• Colored pencils (2-3)
• Small container to hold water
• Other adult art items (no Crayola or other similar brands)
• Inspirational uplifting note

You can purchase supplies for and make as many art kits as your family is able to donate. We recommend making 1 art kit, but any amount you can put together is appreciated.

• Our program is designed to be a family experience. We want parents and caregivers to work alongside their child(ren) for all our Family Volunteering activities.

The mission of Art From the Streets is to provide a safe and encouraging environment in which the positive spirit and creativity for those experiencing homelessness are nurtured through their own artistic expression.

These artistic endeavors form a pathway to self-determination by means of the sense of achievement, social connections, and income generated through the pursuit of their art. Because focusing on housing alone does not achieve other equally important goals that are relevant and motivating to improving and sustaining a quality of life.
